Google Launches YouTube Music and YouTube Premium in Canada
Google has just announced that YouTube Music and YouTube Premium are now available in Canada. YouTube Music is a way to find “all the music on YouTube that you can’t find anywhere else.”
The free version is supported through ads, and it gives users access to music videos, official albums, singles, remixes, live events and covers. The paid version called YouTube Music Premium is CAD 9.99 per month (or $14.99 per month for a family plan).
The subscription-based version will allow its users to download music, to listen to it in the background and when the screen is turned off. The great thing about the app is that it uses Google Search and it’s perfect when you want it to predict future searches. There is also a ‘Smart search’ feature that will let users search for a song by writing, for example: “Halloween-theme song in the Nightmare Before Christmas,” and it will try to produce accurate results.
Think of YouTube Music as a direct competitor to Apple Music and Spotify.
One Subscription for YouTube Premium Includes Google Play Music and YouTube Music Premium
Users that already have a Google Play Music subscription will receive access to YouTube Music Premium. According to the media releases from Monday, “Nothing is changing with Google Play Music.”
Canadians will also get YouTube Premium, which was formerly known as YouTube Red. It’s the response from Google to other subscription-based streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and CraveTV.
YouTube Premium comes with original programs like Cobra Kai, Impulse, and The Sidemen Show. The subscription is $11.99, and users can download the videos on their devices. Any user that has a YouTube Premium subscription will count as a YouTube Music Premium subscription and as a subscription to Google Play Music for no extra costs. So, with a single subscription, users can access all three apps.
You can download YouTube Music from Google Play Store and iOS App Store. As for subscription to YouTube Premium, it’s done through the YouTube website or YouTube mobile app.
