Cogeco’s telephone system restored

The breakdown that affected the majority of Cogeco subscribers in Quebec on Tuesday is over. For several hours Tuesday night, customers could not make or receive calls.

The problem affected the telephony system only. The service resumed gradually at the end of the evening.

The company claims to have identified the cause, without revealing it, for the moment.

Cogeco invites customers who still have problems to contact social support agents by private courier.

No less than 300,000 wireline customers were deprived of service from 3:30 pm Tuesday. For long hours, the company did not know when service could be restored.

The Emergency Measures Branch has had to increase patrols in the affected areas to ensure the safety of the population, said the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

The Sécurité civile du Québec, working in collaboration with the SQ, also recommended to those who may have needed to dial 911 to use a cell phone or to call a neighbor who does not subscribe to Cogeco. .
