Lung cancer symptoms are usually not that obvious until the later stages of the disease and they can, unfortunately, be mistaken for less serious health issues.

Lung cancer symptoms are not usually that apparent until the tumor has grown. It’s true that many symptoms can be mistaken for less serious conditions, but people are advised by experts to take seriously any potential signs.

This is because lung cancer seems to be one of the most common types of cancer in the UK and also one of the most serious ones.

A cough is one of the signs and also feeling breathless and chest/shoulder pain.

But there are three other symptoms to take note of that aren’t usually associated with lung cancer, according to Macmillan.

These are the following:

• Losing weight for no obvious reason
• Feeling extremely tired (fatigue)
• The ends of fingers change shape – they may become larger or rounded (clubbing)

The cancer charity adds: “If you have any of these symptoms, it’s important to have them checked by your GP.”

“Lung cancer is occasionally diagnosed by chance when a person is having tests for another condition. In this situation, the cancer is more likely to be at an early stage,” the cancer charity continued to explain.

Coughing is one of the most common symptoms

It’s true that a cough is one of the most common symptoms of lung cancer, but it can also be caused by smoking, allergy, infections, heartburn and more.

It’s important to know when your cough could be linked to lung cancer and this is the reason for which Cancer Research UK provides three signs to look out for regarding your cough:

• It may be more painful
• It may have a different sound
• It may bring up colored mucus or phlegm
