Cannabis With THC Can Reportedly Alleviate Fibromyalgia Pain

The latest research proves that THC in cannabis is not that bad after all in some cases.

There’s a study in the Netherlands which proved that standardized pharmaceutical-grade cannabis with high THC content has been effective in treating the musculoskeletal pain that’s caused by fibromyalgia.

The study has been conducted by Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC) together with Bedrocan International and found that “cannabis with only cannabidiol (CBD) did not provide the patients with relief.”

The research involved 20 patients who have been treated at four distinct moments, and it also analyzed the administration of three different cannabis products that have been provided by Bedrocan and placebo by a vaporizer. The placebo was cannabis without THC and CBD.

The study’s outcome is crucial with patients with fibromyalgia pain

All individuals taking part at the test were exposed to external pain by applying increased pressure, reported the company.

While using two of the company products, “patients experienced significantly less pressure pain compared to the placebo,” the company statement notes.

Tjalling Erkelens, founder and CEO of Bedrocan, is confident that these results as encouraging for patients.

“The outcome is very important for patients who have fibromyalgia. Now we have the serious clinical evidence that medical doctors are asking for when prescribing our products and that health insurance companies want to have, to legitimize reimbursement,” Erkelens points out.

This study marks the first time when a randomized placebo-controlled four-way cross-over study is conducted into the therapeutic effects on inhaling the cannabis product of the company.

It’s important to know that fibromyalgia patients experience pressure pain on their muscles and also tendons as well.

The conclusion was that THC is useful in this specific condition.

What’s next?

The next step in this research is to study patients at home.

The experts plan to investigate whether THC can be used as a drug that can eliminate opiates.

There are many opiate abusers. It is believed that there might be possible to prescribe less oxycodone for instance if patients use THC.
