NASA has launched the Ocean Worlds Exploration Program. The project’s goal is to track down aquatic alien life. According to Dr. Amanda Hendrix from NASA, right there of the surface of the Saturn’s moon Titan, there might be some mysterious forms of methane-based extraterrestrial life.
In addition to that, the co-lead of the NASA Roadmaps to Oceans Worlds Group, Dr. Amanda Hendrix, exclusively explains that the Ocean Worlds Program represents the best chances of encountering alien life. She said that, in our solar system, the ocean moons around gas giants represent the ideal place to look for alien life. But, we need to understand, once and for all, whether these oceans host extraterrestrial life or not.
She thinks that on Titan, one of the moons of Saturn, there are some chances of finding alien life forms. She added that taking into consideration the fact that Titan has a methane ocean both on the surface and underneath it, plus that it also has liquid hydrocarbon lakes, this moon is a unique world.
Saturn’s Moon Titan Might House Mysterious Methane-based Extraterrestrial Life
With that being said, some type of microorganisms could exist on Titan. To be more precise, the Saturn’s moon might host methane-based extraterrestrial life. However, that life that we could encounter on Titan would not be as complex as people think. No grey aliens with big, black eyes would be swimming around the methane oceans of Titan.
Dr. Hendrix explains that in its attempts to find alien life, NASA’s Ocean Worlds Exploration Program represents a significant strategic shift. According to her, until now, NASA focused its search for extraterrestrial life on Mars, but actually, the scientists figured that the Red Planet might be indeed inhabitable. Mars could, however, house evidence that life existed on its surface in its early history.
Nonetheless, Saturn’s moon Titan is not the only place where scientists could search for extraterrestrial life inside our solar system. Europa and Enceladus are also on the list, and NASA plans to explore those moons, too.
