According to the department of health from North Carolina, a brain-eating amoeba killed a man from Guilford County after contracting it at a water park. Eddie Gray, the victim, visited the Fantasy Lake Water Park in Cumberland County on 12th of July and after he spends some time swimming, he began feeling sick.
Justin Plummer, a Greensboro attorney, mentioned he is representing Eddie Gray’s wife, Ms. Beverly Gray in what has to come. Her husband’s death was untimely and tragic, according to Plummer. During this difficult time, the family requested respect and privacy. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention dealt with the issue by doing some tests, and they confirmed that an amoeba commonly found in warm freshwater, Naegleria fowleri, killed the man.
Brain-eating amoeba is a rare, but fatal organism
Zack Moore, M.D. and State Epidemiologist offered his condolences to the loved ones and family of the victim and advised people that they should be mindful when they enjoy water sports or swim in rivers, warm freshwater lakes and hot springs across North Carolina because this organism is present there. Naegleria fowleri does not cause illness if swallowed but can be fatal if forced up the nose, which can happen to people when diving, water-skiing or doing other water activities.
