Perseid Meteor Shower Can Be Observed Tonight

Each year, meteor showers bright our skies with beautiful beams as if diamonds fall from the sky to earth. Summer meteor showers are charming and delicate, and people will be able to see the fantastic show in just a few days. The Perseids meteor shower will delight our eyes in the last month of summer as it does every year. Usually, they can be seen in the sky between July 17th and August 24th. This year, the American Meteor Society announced that the Perseids would appear on the night sky between August 12th and 13th.

Only one thing can divert our attention from them, and that is the full moon. Also, because of the light reflected by the full moon will be quite bright, the meteor shower might appear relatively reduced in comparison to other years. Meteorologists advise us that the best time to watch the Perseids is with a few hours before dawn because the moon will be low in the sky and will produce less light.

The best locations to observe the Perseid meteor shower

The darker the sky is, the better the Perseids will be seen. Such places with dark skies can be found in Vancouver, at Aldergrove Regional Park. This is where most of the amateur astronomers and space enthusiasts will be. There are going to be telescopes and astronomers ready willing and able to answer all sorts of questions.

Organizers at the Aldergrove Regional Park have already planned all sorts of activities, from lantern-lit trails to games and crafts. These activities will be accessible to all participants that will pay a $2 fee between 8 and 11 p.m. Also, those who want to spend their night in the park are allowed to camp there. Other places in Vancouver that have lesser light pollution might be the Spanish Banks, Burnaby Mountain, and West Vancouver’s Whytecliff Park.
