SpaceX Crew Dragon 2 Mission Gets Ready For The May 27th Launch

SpaceX

The Crew Dragon 2 mission powered by Elon Musk’s company, SpaceX, aims to send for the first time its astronauts in the outer space. The crew is scheduled to fly to the International Space Station on May 27. The mission is a landmark, being for the first time in almost ten years that a team of astronauts will be sent into the outer space from the American soil. The last time that the United States managed to carry its astronauts to analyze the Universe was during the Space Shuttle mission in 2011.

The mission will be accomplished with the help of a Falcon 9 rocket. During the launch, the developing team will test its system, and future analysis of its capabilities will be conducted to use this rocket a second time shortly. The spacecraft is scheduled to reach the ISS base 24 hours after the launch.

The leading operation commander is Robert Behnken, who has gained during his 20 years career as an astronaut an impressive amount of experience. Behnken has completed two space shuttle flights since he was first selected by NASA in 2000. Before being an astronaut, he was a mechanical and physics engineer for CalTech.

The acting spacecraft commander for the crew members is Douglas Hurley, who is responsible for the testing procedures during and after the launch. Hurley was selected to be an astronaut by NASA back in 2000, and he managed to complete two space flights successfully. Before starting his astronaut career, Hurley used to be a fighter pilot and a test pilot, part of the US Marine Corps.

On May 1, SpaceX is planning on holding a set of conferences for the broad public, which will be accessible online on NASA’s official website. In addition to this, the two Crew Dragon 2 members, Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley will be interviewed at the conference.
