Back in September, the Apple Watch Ultra was announced as a really durable and rugged device, much to the excitement of users who are passionate about swimming or like to be active in general and would rather have a smartwatch that stands the test of time and can take a lot of abuse.
And sure enough, one of the very first scenes that were shared with the audience during the live announcement stream, was the Apple Watch Ultra descending deep underwater without a problem.
In fact, to make the visuals even cooler and also showcase what this device has to offer, the display also shows the water depth level in feet and the water’s ambient temperature as it is sinking.
And now, Apple announced the Oceanic+ app made for this already impressive device that basically turns the Apple Watch Ultra into a diving computer.
Designed by Outdoors in collaboration with Apple, Oceanic+ allows the user to access plenty of useful information for divers.
Furthermore, the watch can easily be submerged up to 130 feet or 40 meters deep underwater and will collect more data while this is happening thanks to its water temperature and depth gauge sensors.
In addition to that, the app is also meant to show divers whether they are ascending or descending too fast, as well as an estimated time it would take to return to the surface once submerged.
To help with direction, the user can even access a compass during a dive.
And that’s not even all! You can also access a planner that takes things like visibility, tide and currents into account, informing users of everything they need to know in order to be completely prepared before a dive.
Using the Taptic Engine and the Apple Watch Ultra’s large and bright display, the Oceanic+ app can also notify the wearer of other really important data during their diving session.
Finally, you should know that there is a free version of the app but that it’s limited.
If you want the full version so you can enjoy all the features it has to offer, there are a few different options for unlocking it – you can pay $5 per day, $10 per month, or pay $80 yearly!
In addition to those, there is even a family license you can purchase for $130 per year.
Oceanic+ is compatible with the Apple Watch Ultra running WatchOS 9.1 and can be paired with iPhone 8 or newer models on iOS 16.1.
