Facts and Myths about Diabetes

In this article we are going to talk about causes of diabetes, the effects that it has on the body, the types of diabetes that are put there and address the myths that surround this illness.

All about diabetes

Diabetes is a disease that affects the pancreas, the organ that is in control of the body’s blood sugar level. When the pancreas is unable to create the amount of insulin needed this is directly linked to high levels of blood sugar, or what we call diabetes. Insulin is the thing that allows glucose to be absorbed into the body in order to produce energy.

There two types of diabetes that are the most common: type 1 diabetes, which occurs in children from a very young age and type 2 diabetes that happens mostly due to very poor diet decisions that lead to high levels of sugar in the body.

The main cause of diabetes has been narrowed down to genetics. There are also a number of factors that need to be taken into account which can trigger diabetes, such as poor dietary choices, a lack of sleep and even not exercising on a daily basis. There is no clear evidence that diabetes affects just one type of people, anyone can have it.

When it comes to the symptoms, people that have type 1 diabetes will experience them right away whereas type 2 diabetes can take even years before it sets in and usually people only know that they have it when they start to have heart problems or when they start to have a blurry vision.

In order to live with this illness, one should adjust his or her dietary style in order to include more fruits rather than fast-food options, exercise regularly and keep their blood sugar levels always in check.
