People have been searching for life on the Red Planet for so long, ever since the planet has been seen through the telescope for the very first time.
Express.co.uk reminds us that Italian astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli turned his telescope to the Red Planet, and this event made him the first man to map Mars.
Back then, he has observed some dark areas which he assumed were seas.
These findings have managed to capture people’s imagination and as expected triggered a huge obsession that lasts for hundreds of years.
Martian life
It has been just revealed that alien life-hunters just got the news of their life – massive fungi-like objects have been spotted on Mars, according to the Journal of Astrobiology and Space Science.
What seems to be a kind of algae, lichens and Martian mushrooms have been photographed by the NASA rovers Curiosity and Opportunity.
There are some photos of 15 mushroom-shaped specimens which show them growing bigger and bigger and emerging from beneath the red sands of the planet.
Dr. Regina Dass, of the Department of Microbiology, School of Life Sciences, India, the study’s co-author said the following according to the online publication:
“There are no geological or other abiogenic forces on Earth which can produce sedimentary structures, by the hundreds, which have mushroom shapes, stems, stalks, and shed what looks like spores on the surrounding surface.
She continued and explained that “In fact, fifteen specimens were photographed by NASA growing out of the ground in just three days.”
Opportunity’s last photo on Mars
Speaking of NASA’s rover Opportunity, we recently revealed the heartbreaking last photo that the rover managed to take before it basically died.
Opportunity managed to take a look at its surroundings one more time before it died in the shadow of a Martian dust storm. It managed to save the photo for us to see it.
