Twitter seems to say that there’s no fooling around when it comes to the COVID-19 vaccine. Although a significant part of the world’s population doesn’t trust the vaccines for the pandemic virus for one reason or another, social networks are eager to forbid any form of ungrounded speculation.
Early this month, Facebook announced that it won’t tolerate posts made by conspiracy theorists about the COVID-19 vaccine anymore, and another major social network will do the same. Twitter recently announced that it would moderate and even remove posts that spread harmful misinformation about vaccination for COVID-19.
The restrictions begin next week
Conspiracy theorists have very little time at their disposal to review their attitude towards the vaccine. Twitter will begin forbidding posts against the COVID-19 vaccines next week.
Whether you’re planning to claim online that the COVID-19 vaccine is being used to control populations or that it’s all just a huge hoax, Twitter won’t tolerate such claims.
New rules for 2021
Unfortunately, it would be way too naïve to believe that COVID-19 will disappear by magic in 2021. Twitter owners know that too, and that’s why they’re announcing that for the next year, users will see labels or warnings on posts that promote unsubstantiated claims. Such measures will target even out-of-context information. Furthermore, the labels will direct Twitter users to official information from public health authorities.
The blog post from Twitter wrote:
We will enforce this policy in close consultation with local, national and global public health authorities around the world, and will strive to be iterative and transparent in our approach.
Vaccination for COVID-19 already began, and the US announces its largest-ever immunization campaign. The Pfizer vaccine was already approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and it will be rolled out to other countries as well.
