It is Dyson’s goal to safeguard its customers from air pollution by creating a set of noise-canceling headphones that have an air purifier built in.

The Dyson Zone audio device, which combines over-ear headphones with a contact-free visor to deliver a continuous stream of purified air to your nose and mouth in an effort to help battle various pollutants in the air, from industrial emissions to car exhausts, was given an initial overview by the technology company.

“Get in the zone with Dyson’s latest technology. 30 years of air filtration expertise pioneered into a wearable, high-end audio device. With a contact-free visor to supply a continuous stream of purified air to your nose and mouth. So, you can breathe cleaner air, anywhere,” reads Dyson’s tweet.

In order to combat the city’s noxious odors and pollution, Dyson Zone uses high-efficiency filters and two miniature air pumps. Two streams of filtered air are pumped into the wearer’s nose and mouth via the non-contact visor by the compressors in each earcup, according to the manufacturer.

Traditional headphone functions, such as providing high-quality music, are still met by the headphones. With superior noise cancellation, minimal distortion, and balanced frequency response, Dyson Zone’s headphone cushions mold over the ear to prevent unwanted interference and perfectly duplicate music or audio as the creator intended.

Six years of development by Dyson engineers have resulted in over 500 prototypes of these air-purifying headphones. Once they had an early idea for a device, the team moved on to user testing in order to fine-tune the design and confirm that the product worked as expected.

As a company, Dyson has a reputation for using cutting-edge technology to create products that were formerly considered science fiction, such as its 360 Eye robot vacuum. It is expected that the Dyson Zone headphones will be the company’s newest product to enter the market in Autumn at an as-yet-unknown price point.
