Editorial Policy
Our Commitment to Accurate Reporting
Great Lakes Ledger is committed to publishing factual, well-sourced journalism that serves our readers and the Great Lakes community.
Sourcing Standards
All factual claims must be verified against primary sources before publication. Acceptable primary sources include:
- Government databases and reports (Environment Canada, EPA, Statistics Canada, NOAA)
- Peer-reviewed scientific journals and research papers
- Direct interviews with named sources who have direct knowledge of the subject
- Official public records, court filings, and regulatory documents
Anonymous sources are used only when the information cannot be obtained through other means and the source has direct, first-hand knowledge of the matter. Stories relying on anonymous sources require editor approval.
Corrections Policy
We correct errors promptly and transparently. When a correction is made:
- A correction notice is placed at the top of the article
- The notice describes what was changed and when
- The original error is not deleted but clearly marked
If you spot an error in any of our articles, please contact us at [email protected] with the article URL and a description of the error. We review all correction requests within 48 hours.
Content Independence
Editorial decisions at Great Lakes Ledger are made independently of any commercial interests. We maintain a strict separation between editorial and advertising content:
- We do not accept payment for editorial coverage
- Sponsored content, when published, is clearly and prominently labeled
- Advertising does not influence editorial decisions or story selection
- Staff members disclose potential conflicts of interest to editors
