Yesterday an announcement made by NASA had definitely disappointed a lot of people.
Ars Technica reveals that the space agency reported that they canceled the plan to have the astronauts Anne McClain and Christina Koch perform the agency’s first all-female spacewalk this upcoming Friday.
The decision comes right after McClain’s first spacewalk outside the International Space Station, which occurred last Friday, March 22.
“Mission managers decided to adjust the assignments, due in part to spacesuit availability on the station,” NASA stated.
The space agency continued and reported that “McClain learned during her first spacewalk that a medium-size hard upper torso—essentially the shirt of the spacesuit—fits her best. Because only one medium-size torso can be made ready by Friday, March 29, Koch will wear it.”
Conspiracies arise
It doesn’t take too much to figure it out that various conspiracies have surfaced and they include suppositions of NASA being incompetent or misogynistic.
Ars Technica assures everyone that neither of these claims is true.
On the other hand, NASA does have an issue with its spacesuit inventory and future procurement plans.
NASA is reportedly telling the truth
Ars Technica’s Eric Berger assures the publication’s readers that NASA is not hiding anything and the space agency is definitely telling the truth.
He says: “I have reported on NASA to a greater or lesser extent for nearly two decades, including the space shuttle Columbia accident. In these kinds of circumstances, I have rarely found that NASA officials have lied or even shaded the truth.”
He continues and reports that “For the most part, we are dealing with engineers here, and they’re constantly making trades on what is the most expedient and safest solution to whatever problem they’re facing.”
