The US is split into two opposing camps regarding the coronavirus outbreak – Those endorsing the COVID-19 lockdown and those fighting it. The health authorities, together with Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Dr. Robert Redfield, support the lockdown. At the same time, President Donald Trump is a partisan of the rebels wanting the stay-at-home orders to be abolished.
The consequences of imposed isolation are visible all around the world. Although people are still getting infected with COVID-19 and deaths are yet being reported daily, the curve of the pandemic is flattening. The UK, Italy, and even the US reported fewer cases each day. But this is not convincing enough for those 22 million Americans that lost their job nor for President Trump. He is helplessly watching his promise of a flourishing economy be shred to pieces.
COVID-19 Lockdown Eased Up, But Scientists Fear of a Second Coronavirus Outbreak
According to Global News, Dr. Robert Redfield says that the time to ease the lockdown isn’t here yet. What’s more, health specialists fear a second and more devastating outbreak of COVID-19 in winter. Combined with the usual seasonal influenza, COVID-19 will be havoc.
“There’s a possibility that the assault of the virus on our nation next winter will actually be even more difficult than the one we just went through. We’re going to have the flu epidemic and the coronavirus epidemic at the same time,” said Redfield.
Social distancing is the only weapon humans have in this fight with the coronavirus killing machine. Still, American commerce urges people to get back to normal activities. And people are street protesting, and president Trump endorses the manifestations.
Redfield and public health authorities need time to create a system that will keep the population safe from coronavirus. They intend to fine-tune a testing system that would identify infected people, isolate them, and trace the interactions they previously had. The contact tracing is difficult since it needs 300,000 trained personnel. Workers from the US Census Bureau and volunteers from Peace Corps and AmeriCorps will most likely become the contact tracing personnel. Meanwhile, the COVID-19 lockdown is still on.
