Lab-Grown Meat Could Totally Be the Next Big Thing in the Food Industry; But Why?
Wondering what’s new in the food industry lately? How about some meat that was created in a laboratory?! The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave their approval for UPSIDE Foods’ cell-cultured chicken product back in November 2022, which was a significant step forward for the company. Additionally, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has given UPSIDE Foods a Grant of Inspection, which enables the business to sell its lab-grown chicken to consumers in the United States. We are the people of the future.
What Exactly Is Lab-Grown Meat, Anyway?
The procedure entails extracting cells from the animal of choice (in this example, a chicken) and isolating them in a laboratory setting. In order to stimulate the development of the clumps of cells, a mixture of vitamins, minerals, salt, water, carbohydrates, and amino acids is “fed” to the cells. After just a few weeks, there is a sufficient resource, which means that it may be shaped into the recognizable form of fowl. This stuff can do anything that chicken can do, including being fried, seasoned, and breaded. What would you prefer to try? Could lab-grown meat ends up on people’s plates as soon as 2030?
Where to obtain chicken that has been grown in cell culture
In the beginning, UPSIDE will only make laboratory-grown chicken for a select group of restaurant partners. This is not the first time that lab-grown chicken has been seen in restaurants. For example, back in 2020, a firm called Eat Just released their product in Singapore, making Singapore the first country in the world to ever approve the sale of lab-cultured meat. Of course, we’re going to hear more about the introduction of lab-grown meat in the near future as companies would take this approach, and restaurants and markets will welcome the products.
What are your opinions on the concept of meat created in a laboratory? Do you think it’s important to take this into account?
