The asteroid that has been recently in NASA’s attention is 99942 Apophis, also known as “God of Chaos”. As the name suggests, this asteroid could be very dangerous if it will hit the Earth, so that’s why the US Space Agency is concerned about it and started the preparations.

First of all, Apophis will get close to Earth in ten years, as the specialists from NASA suggested. Because of the fact that it’s very large, a possible collision could produce some serious damage and unfortunately, it could devastate the life on Earth. That’s very alarming and NASA has to be prepared for the worst.

Also, we found out that Apophis travels very fast, it can reach almost 25,000 mph. A little wrong step from its trajectory would cause, as we said before, a lot of damage.
Because is one of the largest asteroids to come close to Earth, it was categorized as a PHA, meaning Potentially Hazardous Asteroid.
NASA is working very hard on finding more details about Apophis because they want to prevent other similar situations in the future.
Now, we have some good news too. The chances of the Apophis to strike the Earth is just 1 to 100,000, as suggested by some studies. So, keep that in mind along with the fact that the asteroid is one of NASA’s top priorities.
