Doctors are highly warning vegans to reconsider the importance of vitamin B12. Such a warning comes ahead of the Veganuary event when a lot of people start a plant-based diet plan.
Also, doctors are worried that people see the risks of B12 deficiency linked with a vegan diet as a “myth.” They also advised them to get information on how to ensure they get enough of the vitamin if they go on past the first month. However, it would need many years to become deficient in B12, which can lead to constant numbness, neuropathy, degeneration of the spinal cord, or nerve deterioration.
Professor Tom Sanders, from King’s College of London, stated that a significant UK research on 172 vegan men had discovered almost a fifth of participants were prone to be “seriously deficient.”
