Scientists have done a lot of research when it comes to the surface of the Earth and what’s beneath it, and we still don’t know for sure what is going on. But scientists have created a 3D model of the structure beneath Africa and beneath the Pacific Ocean.
Spoiler alert – there could be a lot of lava. The core of the Earth is what protects us from solar radiation, and it is also the one responsible for the geometric north and south.
We are still not sure where it ends, the map of the subsurface showed some blobs which are similar to some continents underworld. One blob is placed under Africa and the other one beneath the Pacific Ocean. Their place depends on the tectonic plates of the Earth, but actually, no plate has been exposed. When one moves, and it is beneath the other, it pushes the cooler rocks on the surface, going way more in-depth.
More about the mysterious blobs beneath Africa and the Pacific
Saskia Goes, from Imperial College London, has talked about this matter: “It’s the absence of cold material that makes these relatively hot.” We need to mention that the blobs are of about 100 times the height of Mt. Everest, which, as we all know, is the tallest mountain on the planet.
Ed Garnero is a seismologist from Arizona State University. He stated that these are definitely the most significant things on our planet. If these blobs actually rise up, they will probably paint Earth with a lava lake of 100 kilometers deep – that’s 62 miles – which means that there will be no life on Earth whatsoever.
Ever since their discovery happened in the late 20th Century, there appeared so many theories about these blobs: what they are and how dangerous they are. The most famous theory is that they are actually part of the core of Earth, which is broken apart.
