If you’re into superhero movies, the chances are great that you’re also a fan of Thor. Chris Hemsworth is the actor playing the powerful and arrogant god brought to the big screens by Marvel. After receiving confirmation that he is at risk of suffering from Alzheimer’s disease at some point in the future, Chris decided to take a break from his acting career, according to The Guardian.

The suspicion of the most common form of dementia affecting his mind in the future comes due to the fact that the actor’s body contains two copies of the APOE4 gene. That means that Chris has ten higher chance of suffering from Alzheimer’s in the future, as a genetic test reveals.

Not preparing for ‘Limitless’ anymore

Chris Hemsworth’s decision to step away from acting has come after a genetic test he took as part of Limitless, a Disney+ documentary series. It seems that the actor won’t be preparing for the series anymore. The two copies of the APOE4 gene were inherited by the actor from both his parents.

However, it’s important to mention that being at risk of a certain disease doesn’t necessarily mean that the disease will indeed do its thing at some point in the life of a person.

Speaking for Vanity Fair, Chris brings some good news for the fans, as The Guardian quotes:

It’s not like I’ve been handed my resignation.

He also added, as the same source quotes:

If you look at Alzheimer’s prevention, the benefit of preventative steps is that it affects the rest of your life,

It’s all about sleep management, stress management, nutrition, movement, fitness. It’s all kind of the same tools that need to be applied in a consistent way.

Suffering from Alzheimer’s at some point in his life is the biggest fear of Chris Hemsworth. However, the actor is only 39 years old, which should mean that if Alzheimer’s indeed kicks in at some point, it will happen some decades from now. The vast majority of those suffering from Alzheimer’s are seniors.
