Impulse is one of the most popular TV series made for YouTube Premium. It is based on the novel with the same name by Steven Gould.
The first season of the series was unleashed in June 2016. The feedback from critics was stellar, and the season was certified fresh by Rotten Tomatoes. One of the critics has stated the show is a remarkable Young Adult fiction experience. It manages to portray even the darkest moments with style and flair, without feeling like it is overdone, a problem that tends to plague many similar series.
Many have also remarked the talent of the cast, among which we can count Maddie Hasson, Sarah Desjardins, Enuka Okuma, Tanner Stine, Keegan-Michael Key, Missi Pyle, Daniel Manslany and Callum Keith Ronnie.
The second season was also favored by fans and reviewers alike. While it remains focused on Henrietta ‘’Henry’’ Coles (played by Maddie Hasson) as she continues to battle with all the problems entailed by adolescence, it also manages to include the sci-fi angle masterfully.
An interesting fact is that the series is quite successful despite the lack of humor, which tends to surface quite often in most TV productions. Some episodes may tend to be rather bleak, but it remains engaging, and fans want more.
Since the series is based on a novel, there is enough material for another season, but it remains to be seen if YouTube wants to continue the series. At this point no official statements have been offered, but it is thought that at least another season will be made. According to some rumors YouTube plans to release the third season in October 2020, but this remains to be seen.
YouTube Red, which is now known as YouTube Premium, has been a successful venture for Google. Besides access to original content, it also includes the ability to watch YouTube videos without ads and access to YouTube Music.
